چکیده

Extra-dimensional theories contain additional degrees of freedom related to the geometry of the extra space which can be interpreted as new particles. Such theories allow to reformulate most of the fundamental problems of physics from a completely different point of view. In this essay we concentrate on the brane fluctuations which are present in brane-worlds, and how such oscillations of the own space-time geometry along curved extra dimensions can help to resolve the Universe missing mass problem. The energy scales involved in these models are low compared to the Planck scale, and this means that some of the brane fluctuations distinctive signals could be detected in future colliders and in direct or indirect dark matter searches. * Essay selected for " Honorable Mention " in the 2004 Awards for Essays on Gravitation (Gravity Research Foundation).

Testing Dark Matter with Neutrino Detectors

Neutrinos are the least detectable Standard Model particle. By making use of this fact, we consider dark matter annihilations and decays in the galactic halo and show how present and future neutrino detectors could be used to set general limits on the dark matter annihilation cross section and on the dark matter lifetime.

Remarks on Weyl Geometry and Quantum Mechanics

A short survey of some material related to conformal general relativity (GR), integrable Weyl geometry, and Dirac-Weyl theory is given which suggests that various actions can be reformulated in terms of the quantum potential. Possible connections to dark matter are also indicated.

Modified Friedmann model in Randers-Finsler space of approximate Berwald type as a possible alternative to dark energy hypothesis

Gravitational field equations in Randers-Finsler space of approximate Berwald type are investigated. A modified Friedmann model is proposed. It is showed that the accelerated expanding universe is guaranteed by a constrained RandersFinsler structure without invoking dark energy. The geodesic in Randers-Finsler space is studied. The additional term in the geodesic equation acts as repulsive forc...

Status of the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search Experiment

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search experiment (CDMS) is using Phonon+ Ionization detectors to search for Dark Matter in the form of Weakly Interactive Massive Particles (WIMPs). We report the current status of the experiment and its perspective to achieve the sensitivity goal of the cross section: σWIMP-nucleon ∼ 1 × 10−44 cm2 (Spin independent).

Bounds on Dark Matter from the “Atmospheric Neutrino Anomaly”

Bounds are derived on the cross section, flux and energy density of new particles that may be responsible for the atmospheric neutrino anomaly. 4.6× 10−45 cm2 < σ < 2.4 × 10−34 cm2 Decay of primordial homogeneous dark matter can be excluded. Fractal distributions of dark matter and gas in the MareNostrum Universe

Context. Large simulations of dark matter and gas structure formation allow us to separate the pure gravitational dynamics from other processes and, hence, to better compare them with observations. Aims. Our objective is to analyse the recent MareNostrum simulation from a new perspective, regarding the geometry of the dark matter and gas distributions in it. We intend to find the fractal geomet...
